WBB drop West showdown for first

In a winner-take-all game to determine the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) West division champion Thursday, Penn State Beaver downed Penn State Fayette, 64-50.

"We played into what they wanted to do," said Fayette coach Scott Hillen.  "We had too many turnovers, we were outcoached and outplayed.  They were the better team tonight."

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Fayette never led again, and the 50 points tied for Fayette's fourth-lowest total of the season.

The most telling stat of the game was from three-point land as the teams were almost even from the floor overall.  While Beaver (16-7 overall, 14-5 PSUAC) made 22 of 50 shots (42 percent) from the floor and Fayette (15-8, 13-6) made 21 of its 50 attempts (42 percent), it was from beyond the arc where Beaver won the game as it made six of 18 attempts (33 percent) from beyond the arc.  Fayette missed all four of its attempts from downtown.

Fayette turned the ball over 31 times resulting in 27 Beaver points while Fayette turned 23 Beaver turnovers into 20 points.  Fayette's biggest statistical advantage came in the paint as it held a 36-22 advantage.

Morgan Rigsby (West Portsmith, OH/West Portsmith HS) and Stephanie Taylor (Manassas, VA/Osborne HS) led Fayette with 10 points apiece with Rigsby grabbing 11 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season.  Jimya Chambers and Alexis Cross each scored 17 points to lead Beaver.

With the loss, Fayette is seeded second in the West division of the PSUAC tournament.
