Fayette Drops Three Matches at Waynesburg Quad Match

January 26, 2012

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Junior Dan Karpency (Adah, Pa.) and Kenny Seliga went 3-0 at the Waynesburg Quad Match, but Penn State Fayette's lack of depth in the final three weight classes prevented wins in each of the three matches for the Roaring Lions. The Roaring Lions (2-6, 2-2 PSUAC) dropped decisions to Penn State Beaver, 24-21, Penn State Greater Allegheny, 21-18, and Waynesburg University, 46-9.

In session one against Beaver, Fayette's Kenny Seliga and Mhye Brown (Columbus, Ga.) took home forfeits before freshman Jacob Durbin (Nineveh, Pa.) scored a 7-0 win over Beaver Dylan Winkle to give Fayette a 15-0 lead. Karpency followed with a pin against Bobby Tempalski for a 21-0 lead, but the Roaring Lions ailing upper weight classes dropped three forfeits, and Beaver's Keagan Donnan pinned sophomore Mark Hall (Connellsville, Pa.) as Beaver escaped with a 24-21 win.

Against Greater Allegheny in session two, Seliga and Brown each scored pins to open the match. Seliga pinned Bobby Williams in 4:51 before Brown set a school record with a pin in 21 seconds on Soham Salvi. Greater Allegheny's Matt Lago earned a 6-1 decision over Durbin to make it 12-3 in favor of the Roaring Lions, before Karpency earned Fayette's final six points with an injury defeat of Tyler McElheny. After a Fayette forfeit, Myan Haviv pinned Hall to bring the Lions within three, 18-15, and a Roaring Lions forfeit at 197 gave Greater Allegheny the 21-18 win.

Waynesburg University hosted the Roaring Lions in session three, taking home 36 points on forfeits. Seliga pinned Matthew Dates to tie the score at 6-6, but Waynesburg's Jake Vitolo scored a pin over Brown, followed by Dan Bruni's 12-4 major decision over Durbin to make it 16-6. Karpency then earned a 12-6 win over Eric Tuck to draw the match to 16-9, but Waynesburg took the final five weight classes via forfeit for the win.

Fayette returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 2 as they travel to Penn State Mont Alto for a 7:00 p.m. start.
