No. 3 Volleyball Completes Perfect Conference Season

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - The No. 3 Penn State Fayette women's volleyball team completed their second 16-0 conference record in the past three seasons on Sunday., clinching the number one seed and a first round bye in the PSUAC playoff. The Roaring Lions defeated Penn State New Kensington, 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-15) to improve to 24-4 on the season, and winning their 28th consecutive conference match, including three wins in last season's conference tournament.

 

Sophomore Caitlin Fidel (Perryopolis, Pa.) and freshman Janelle Cooper (Mount Braddock, Pa.) each finished with six kills to lead the Roaring Lions, while freshman Samantha Helmantoler (Monongahela, Pa.) added five. Senior Leah Ambrosini (Connellsville, Pa.) and Fidel each recorded three blocks for Fayette, while senior Katie Sleasman notched 24 assists and four digs.

 

With the number one seed, Fayette has earned a bye into the conference tournament semifinals, held on Friday, Oct. 21 at Rec Hall on the University Park campus. The Roaring Lions will play at either 5:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. The tournament finals are set for Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
