Fayette Completes Weekend Sweep

September 25, 2011

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – Fourth-ranked Penn State Fayette remained perfect in conference play with a sweep of its matches over the weekend.

The Roaring Lions swept both Penn State Schuylkill (25-4, 25-8, 25-16) and Penn State Brandywine (25-22, 25-11, 25-18) in matches played at Penn State Greater Allegheny on Sept. 24, before beating Penn State Mont Alto, 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 25-27, 25-19) and Penn State York, 3-0 (25-6, forfeit) in the Community Center Main Arena on Sunday.

Junior Leah Ambrosini (Connellsville, Pa.) led Fayette against Schuylkill, tallying seven kills, while sophomore's Marney Hillen (Connellsville, Pa.) and Caitlin Fidel (Perryopolis, Pa.) added five and four, respectively. Ambrosini led the way against Mont Alto, tallying 22 of Fayette's 59 total kills. Freshman Janelle Cooper (Mt. Braddock, Pa.) added eight and Hillen (Connellsville, Pa.) seven against the Lady Lions.

Sleasman (Connellsville, Pa.) and Konter (Brownsville, Pa.) had 28 and 20 assists, respectively. Hillen had 19 digs and Sleasman and Ambrosini added 10 each, while sophomore Victoria Kearns (Uniontown, Pa.) added six.

Against York, Fayette took game won 25-6 behind Fidel's three kills. Ambrosini and Hillen each added three.  Sleasman had nine assists.

With the score tied at one in game two, York was unable to continue and Fayette received the walkover win.

The Roaring Lions improve to 14-3 overall, 6-0 in the PSUAC. Fayette travels to Penn State DuBois on Tuesday and returns home for a pair of matches, hosting Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Penn State New Kensington on Sunday, Oct. 2. Both matches begin at noon.
