Fayette roars into finals with 3-0 win over Penn College

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lady Roaring Lions are on the doorstep of another PSUAC title. Fayette advanced to Sunday's PSUAC Volleyball championship game with a convincing 3-0 win over fourth-seeded Penn College on Friday.
Top-seeded Fayette (22-9, 17-0) won by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-9.
Emily Konter (Brownsville) dished out 24 assists, notched four services aces, three kills and five digs to lead the Lady Roaring Lions. Samantha Helmantoler (Ringgold) notched 11 kills, while Megan Manack (Frazier) added six and Kelsey Tyler (California) added four.
Emily Caldwell (Belle Vernon) paced the defense with eight digs while Tori Helmantoler (Ringgold) added seven and Caitlyn Williams (Connellsville) three as Fayette advanced to its sixth consecutive PSUAC championship game and eighth in nine years.
The Lady Roaring Lions will face second-seeded Penn State Brandywine on Sunday at noon for the PSUAC title. The Lady Lions advanced to the championship game with a 3-0 win over Penn State Mont Alto earlier in the evening.
After falling behind 7-6 in the first set, Katlyn Salisbury (Yough) scored a pair of service aces, and two mistakes from Penn turned the deficit into a 10-7 lead. Janelle Cooper (Laurel Highlands) and Sam Helmantoler added kills and Caldwell served out the final five points of the set notching a pair of aces along the way.
Kills by Cooper and Konter broke open a tight second set and Fayette made no mistake about the third. Sam Helmantoler started the run with a kill, and by the time Sam Helmantoler and Frankie Legros (Brownsville) combined on a block the Lady Roaring Lions had run off 14 consecutive points and set their sights on Sunday.
