VB splits weekend home matches; eight-match winning streak snapped

The Penn State Fayette volleyball team split a pair of Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) matches at home over the weekend.

"We got caught up in the future," coach Sam Swetz said. "It is important that we learn to play for the present."

On Saturday, Fayette (8-2, 4-1 PSUAC) swept PSU New Kensington (1-5, 0-4) in three sets (25-9, 25-9, 25-11).

The win was Fayette's fifth straight sweep.

Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) led the way with nine kills and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) recorded 13 assists.

Fayette's eight-match winning streak was snapped Sunday at the hands of PSU Greater Allegheny (4-7, 3-2), three sets to one (25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 17-25).

Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) had 13 kills, Buwawa had 17 digs and Machaela Hall (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS), who was named the PSUAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 17, added 12 digs.

"It is only a minor setback," Swetz said. "We have to move forward and realize that we have the whole other half of the conference season ahead of us."

Fayette returns to conference action Tuesday when it heads to PSU Beaver (7-4, 3-1).

The match starts at 7:30 PM.
