Fayette plays "up" and wins at Carlow

Prior to this season, the Penn State Fayette volleyball team had never beaten Carlow.

Tuesday night, the Nittany Lions (14-2) defeated the Celtics for the second time in a little more than two weeks.

Both teams are a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), but Carlow is a Division I member while Fayette is in Division II.

"This is such a huge win for us," said Fayette coach Sam Swetz. "They are such a good team and we truly battled our hearts out."

Carlow took the first match, 25-15.

However, it served as a wakeup call for the Nittany Lions as they came back to win the next three sets, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.

Angel Buwawa (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) had 26 digs and 10 kills, Machaela Hall (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) recorded 19 digs, Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) had 15 kills, 13 digs and nine blocks and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) had 19 assists and seven digs.

Two of the players who didn't put up huge stats but played well were Morgan Pytlak (Rillton, PA/Yough HS) and Megan Goodnight (Wheeling, WV/The Linsly School).

Morgan had a huge game for us," said Swetz. "Another key was Megan as she really came alive tonight."

Swetz spoke about what the win will do for the team.

"It gives us motivation and confidence moving forward," she said.

Fayette returns to Pennsylvania State University Athletic Association (PSUAC) action Friday when it hosts PSU DuBois.

Fayette won at DuBois on September 14 in straight sets.

Then on Saturday, Fayette hosts rival Christendom at 10 AM and Westmoreland County Community College at noon.
