VB dominates, wins 11th straight

The Penn State Fayette volleyball team continued its torrid pace as it won its 11th consecutive match with a sweep at Penn State Mont Alto Saturday in Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) action.

The scores of the three sets were 25-17, 25-5 and 25-11 and despite being down a pair of starters, Fayette's depth proved to be too much.

Kayla Zelonka (East Vandergrift, PA/Kiski HS) recorded 10 kills and six digs, Siteri Tale (Uniontown/Laurel Highlands HS) had nine kills, eight digs and four blocks, Machaela Hall (Fairchance, PA/Albert Gallatin HS) finished with 10 digs, Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, Carmichaels HS) had a match-high 16 assists and Justyne Howell (Hunker, PA/Southmoreland HS) had 12 assists of her own.

"It is so exciting when the young players like Kayla step up when we are (missing) two starters," said head coach Sa Swetz. "I am so proud of her and it is exciting to see what they future holds for her and our other young players."

Fayette (19-2, 8-1), who is in first place in the PSUAC West division, is at Penn State New Kensington (3-14, 0-9) Tuesday night before heading to Penn State Greater Allegheny (15-7, 7-2) to try and extract revenge for its only conference blemish at a September 22nd defeat.

"How we played in the second and third set today is showing that the girls are ready for this upcoming week," Swetz said. "They know what it means to us."

During Fayette's 11-match winning streak, the team has won 31 of 33 sets played.
