Softball Falls in their First Two Double-Headers

Hutchinson Field – Kicking off the season, Penn State Fayette softball team took on Carlow for a double-header on Monday, March 21st. This was the first time the girls had ever competed together, so it took a couple of innings for them to get into a groove. The first game wasn't quite the start the Lady Roaring Lions were hoping for falling short to the Celtics 12-1. In the second game, the Fayette women rallied, taking the Celtics to 7 innings and only losing 10-3.

On Wednesday, March 23rd, the Fayette ladies were set to play St. Vincent at home in a double-header with the first game starting at 3pm.  Shelby Dziak was the lead off pitcher in the first game, pulling out three strikeouts in the first two innings. By the fourth inning, the Lady Roaring Lions worked together to get three quick outs, holding them scoreless, then only allowed one more run to score in the fifth inning to finish off the game.  The final score was 14-0.

Coming into the second game, Alyssa Strausser led off on the mound for Fayette. Starting off a little rocky, the Lady Roaring Lions redeemed themselves in the second inning holding off any of the St. Vincent players from scoring for two innings. The Fayette women made some smart plays in the third to escape the inning leaving St. Vincent scoreless with the bases loaded. Offensively, Kelsie Seman scored Fayette's only run of the game with help from a big hit by Shelby Dziak. The Fayette softball team finished the game with a score of 16-1.

Picking back up next week, the Fayette ladies softball team will traveling to their first away game of the season at Waynesburg University on Tuesday, March 29th. The double-header will begin at 3:30pm and the following game at 5:30pm.
