Lady Roaring Lions Swept the Weekend

NORTHEASTERN, PA – The Lady Roaring Lions swept the weekend with two crucial wins against Penn State Worthington Scranton on Friday and Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. These two wins helped Penn State Fayette clinch the advantage of hosting the first round of playoffs, PSUAC Quarterfinals, this week, advancing into the postseason as fourth in the conference.

Fayette had an easy win against Worthington Scranton putting them at 0-14 for the season. Coming out on top with 77 points and only giving up 49, the women had four players in double digits with Courtney Haines leading the way contributing 21 points. Haines recorded her fourth game out of the last five scoring at least 20 points.

Under the hoop, Worthington Scranton's guard, Sara Moss was all over the ball rebounding 9 shots overall while also making the most free throws for her team. In contrast, Fayette took full advantage of their opposition's turnovers, capturing 20 points with 8 team steals.

 

Saturday, Feb 13th, the Fayette ladies rattled Penn State Wilkes-Barre after a close game, defeating them 65-56. From the free throw line, Fayette was nearly flawless, missing only one out of thirteen foul shots (92.3%). On the board, the starters posted a strong game with four players in double digits and Taylor Smith impressively had her thirteenth game with a double-double this season (10 points and 14 rebounds). For the second game in a row, Courtney Haines was top on the scoresheet with 20 points.  

Coming off the bench for Wilkes-Barre, four of their players accumulated 22 of their team's points, however, they still came up short in the end. Throughout the game, the teams alternated leading switching back and forth a total of nine times, making it a very evenly matched game.

The Fayette ladies are on a roll with a four game win streak under their belt, ready to take on Penn State Brandywine at home on Wednesday for the PSUAC Quarterfinals. Brandywine (7-4) has one more game to play this season tonight against Penn State Greater Allegheny (5-8). If Brandywine wins that may help them tie for fourth with Fayette to finish out the regular season.
