Cross Country Sets New Records

LEHMAN, Pa. - The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions women's cross country team placed second at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational on Saturday, while the men finished seventh in the first conference meet of the year.
Sophomore Carin Benz led the women's team with a seventh place finish with a time of 19:24 on the 2.8 mile course. Sophomore Jennifer Naymick, a PSUAC First Team selection last season, finished ninth at 19:28, while sophomore Heather Hunchuck finished 11th at 20:56. All six of Fayette's runners finished in the top 16, including Jacynth Drumhiller (13th), Samantha Virgillo (14th) and Jessica Shipley (16th). The finishes gave the women a second place finish, a program best in its three years of existence. Penn State Scranton won the women's team title.
Freshman Kevin Diamond led the men's squad, capturing 26th with a 33:55 on the 8K course. Freshman DonMonique Lee was close behind at 34:11, finishing 28th. The Roaring Lions finished seventh out of eight squads.
After a two week hiatus, the Roaring Lions travel to the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
