Penn State Fayette fares well in season opener

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa.—The Penn State Fayette Cross Country Team started the 2015 season with a trip to the Greater Allegheny Invitational. Despite having only four runners, the team fared well in a field that included 15 teams and several NCAA Division II and Division III teams.

Freshman Christopher Andino-Nunez led the Roaring Lions with a 22nd place finish. He completed the very challenging 8K course in 32:12. Sophomore Pedro Tavarez was next for Penn State Fayette in 40th place. He ran 35:15 to complete the race. He was followed by sophomore Zain Ali in 55th and first-year student Kareem Davis in 63rd place.

"I felt it was a great run by the guys, the course was very tough, and it was the whole team's first college race and first 8K. They should be proud of their effort," said first-year Coach Joe Carei.

The team travels next to Media, Pa., September 19, to run the Brandywine Invitational.
