Penn State Fayette Has Strong Performance in FSU Invitational

The Frostburg Invitational lived up to its name as the Penn State Fayette Cross Country team traveled to Maryland this past Saturday.

The Roaring Lions Men's Team finished 6th, out of 8 team in the cold, rainy weather.

Sophomores Pedro Tavarez(Central York) and Jesse Varndell(Albert Gallatin), paced the team with 39th and 40th place finishes.  Zain Ali(Milliken, CA) followed in 49th and was joined quickly by  Kareem Davis(Martin County High, FL) in 51st and first time runners freshman Francisco Quinones(52nd) and Caron Mains(55th)

"As usual, I was impressed with our team.  Not one of these guys ran cross country in high school or ran longer than an 800 in track.  To come out and run 5 miles in these conditions…just finishing is remarkable," said first year coach Joe Carei.

The women's race also saw a roaring Lions Rookie.  Junior Mallory ran her first race for Penn State Fayette.  She finished 23rd overall and was the 4th PSUAC runner.

"Mallory just started running this week, so we held her back.  I can't wait to see what she can do when she is ready to go."  Said Carei.

The team travels to Schenley Park in Pittsburg on Saturday, October 10 for the Carnegie Mellon Invite.
