Men's XC makes program history at USCAA Fall Championships

Lemont Furnace, PA – The back-to-back PSUAC Men's Cross Country Champion, Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions, traveled to Virginia Beach, Virginia to compete in the 2017 USCAA Cross Country Championships this past weekend. After winning the PSUAC title, the Roaring Lions were ready to make a statement in Virginia Beach. The men's team would run the 8K race on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 AM. Penn State Fayette would not win the national championship, but they were able to accomplish something that has never occurred in Penn State Fayette cross country history.

The Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions men's cross country team would place 8th at the USCAA National Championship. This is the first time Fayette has placed in the top 10 at the national level. The USCAA Coach of the Year, Joe Carei, and the men's cross country team trained hard all year to accomplish this achievement and were able to make a statement at nationals against division I and II schools. Nyoah Martney led the way for the Roaring Lions and finished at his best personal record of 28:03. Devin Pisarski (29:08) and Aaron Mylan (29:38) were right behind him and helped contribute to the 8th place finish. Other runners that played a big role in the race were Michael Elliot (31:16), Ty Hunker (32:35), Anthony Berdine (33:48), Vincent Keffer (34:20), Austin Bittner (34:27) and Hayden Rhodes (37:45).

This is an outstanding accomplishment for Penn State Fayette cross country as the 2017 season comes to an end. Overall, the Penn State Fayette cross country teams finished the 2017 season with two runners, Anna Elko and Devin Pisarski, as Penn State Fayette's "Athlete of the Week", Aaron Mylan as a USCAA "Runner of the Week", repeating as PSUAC champions, a well-deserved "USCAA Coach of the Year" award for Head Coach, Joe Carei, and an 8th place finish at the USCAA National Championship. Congratulations to the 2017 Penn State Fayette cross country teams on an outstanding season!
