XC notches another impressive performance at PS Scranton

Lemont Furnace, Pa - The Penn State Fayette cross country team took part in the Penn State Scranton Nittany Lion Open Friday, and the results were impressive as six Fayette runners finished in the top eight.

"It was a very sloppy course, but this is cross country," said coach Joe Carei. "The times were not indicative of the effort.

"We ran controlled and in two packs, and Mike did a great job with our second group."

Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) won the race with a time of 29:44, one second before teammate Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) with his second-place finish in a time of 29:45.

Michael Elliot (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) placed fifth with a time of 30:57, Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) was sixth with a time of 31:01, Stephen Lacek (Fort Cherry, PA/Fort Cherry HS) followed in seventh with a time of 31:03 and Mitchell Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) finished eighth with a time of 31:10.

The team is now gearing up for Saturday's Carnegie Mellon University Invitational.

"I am looking forward to next week," Carei said. "We will go up against all of the teams, big and small, in Western PA.

"Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, Point Park and Seton Hill are a few of the other teams who will participate."
