Fayette XC performs well at CMU Invitational

Carnegie, PA - The Penn State Fayette cross country team recorded its best-ever finish at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on Saturday, October 6 and finished in seventh place.

The team's result is its best in program history at the event, which had Division I, II and III teams, and head coach Jae Carei spoke about the race.

"I felt like we had a solid run even though we are still in training mode," he said. "We start really racing next week, however, our pack continues to be impressive as we had a gap of one minute and 20 seconds in between our top five guys."

Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) led all Fayette runners with a time of 29:39 while Aaron Mylan (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson-Morgan HS) finished at 30:21, Devin Pisarski (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville HS) clocked in at 30:33, Drew Erdman (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem HS) finished at 30:40, Michael Elliot (Clarksville, PA/Beth-Center HS) crossed the finish line at 30:59, Mitchell Minda (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward HS) finished at 31:07, Stephen Lacek (Fort Cherry, PA/Fort Cherry HS) finished it 34:41 and Hayden Rhodes (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) completed the race in 42:41.

Carei spoke about the nice blend of youth and experience that the team possesses.

"Our young runners are starting to get used to the distance and the upperclassmen are leading by example."
