Marteny named USCAA Runner of the Week

Lemont Furnace, PA - Atthe PSUAC cross country championships on October 27, Nyoah Marteny (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) won the men's race.

Thanks to his performance, he has been named the USCAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of October 30.

"It's a great accomplishment that I have worked hard to achieve," Marteny said. "I think of it as a little confidence booster heading into the national championships next week."

XC head coach Joe Carei shared his feelings.

"Nyoah has led the team all year, plus his resounding win at (the conference championships) made an impact," said Carei. "He beat a former USCAA Runner of the Week and had his best run in the Association on Saturday."

Carei also talked about what Marteny has brought the team this season.

"He has been steady and has improved every meet," Carei said. "He listens to what his coaches tell him and responds and is an intellectual runner who is not afraid to ask questions."

How does Carei see Marteny doing at the national championships?

"Nyoah is hoping to become an All-American (top-14) this year after being 26th last year," Carei said. "He also hopes to help the team to a top-five finish."
